Financial Assistance 1998-2000

Assisting needy and deserving students who have a keen desire to pursue their academic career seriously and excel in it, is one of Priyadarshni Academy’s very significant goals.

The Academy has been assisting students, on school level as well as for higher education, since its inception.

Efforts in the field of education continued during the years 1998-99 and many students as well as organizations promoting educational activities received financial assistance from the Academy.

28th September, 1999

Mr. Rewachand Namomal Bachwani received the Financial Assistance of Rs.3,000/- for the medical treatment of his daughter, Miss Deepa Bachwani, who had suffered from accidental burns. Ms. Bachwani was under going treatment at Masina Hospital, Byculla for the same. The assistance was provided to help Mr. Bachwani to meet the hospitalization and surgery expenses of the treatment.

27th September, 1999

Mr. Girish Motwani, a student of F.Y.B.Phar. Sci., received the second and final installment of Rs.2,500/- of the Academy’s "Kala Gopaldas Mahbubani Memorial Scholarship". The Academy extended the second installment of the prestigious scholarship to Mr. Motwani upon receiving a satisfactory record of his Academic performance in the first half of the year.

23rd September, 1999

Mr. Tukaram S. More received the third installment of Rs.250/- for the month of September, 1999 as Priyadarshni Academy’s Educational Assistance for him.

24th August, 1999

Mr. Amit Anant Palye received the Educational Assistance of Rs.850/- towards the cost of his text books for his T.Y.B.Comm. course for the year 1999. Mr. Palye is a student of D. G. Ruparel college of Arts, Commerce and Science, Mahim, Mumbai.

Mr. Tukaram Sakharam More received the second installment of the Educational Assistance of Rs.250/- for the month of August 1999.

July 7, 1999

Mr. Tukaram Sakharam More was granted an educational assistance of Rs.250/- per month from the month of July, 1999 to December, 1999 to help him with the expenses of his studies in S.Y.B.Com., from D.G. Ruparel College, Mumbai. Mr. More received the first installment of the educational assistance for the month of July, 1999.

Mr. Keshav More was given an educational help of Rs.550/- towards the education of his son Parag More for his studies for graduation.

Mrs. Daphne Pereira was given a financial assistance of Rs.2,500/- to help her meet the medical expenses of her mother, Mrs. Angeline Coutinho. Mrs. Coutinho was receiving treatment in Lilavati Hospital for various ailments.

Maharaj Manohar R. Sharma was given a financial assistance of Rs.2,500/- towards payment of the hospital bills of his son.

Mrs. Kanchan Gyan Chandani received an educational assistance of Rs.1,000/- towards the uniforms and books for her 2 children for the academic year 1999 - 2000.

A financial assistance of Rs.5000/- was given to Mr. Sanjay Rupani of Ulhasnagar, receiving medical treatment in Jaslok Hospital and Research Centre, to help him meet the medical expenses of dialysis, hospital charges and medicine.

An educational assistance of Rs.5000/- was awarded to Mr. Sanjeev K. Waghmare towards his visit to Europe to participate in Conferences and Presentations on Biological Sciences. Mr. Waghmare was selected for presentations at the 20th ISSY "International Symposium on Yeast Cell Surfaces and Membrane Phenomenon" conference and FEBS "Federation of European Biochemical Societies" conference as well as for Presentations at the University of Lausanne, Switzerland. The participation in these conferences provided Mr. Waghmare with an opportunity to present his work in these fields on International platforms.

A financial assistance of Rs.2000/- was extended to Ms. Lajwanti Shailesh Panchal to help with the medical expenses of her husband Mr. Shailesh Panchal, suffering from serious heart ailments.

Kala Gopaldas Mahbubani Memorial Scholarship of Rs.5000/- was granted to Mr. Girish Motwani. Mr. Motwani, who is studying a degree course of pharmacy at K.M.K. College of Pharmacy received the first installment of the Scholarship i.e. Rs.2,500/- . The second and final installment of the scholarship would be extended to him upon submission of his next examination result after a period of 6 months. This scholarship is sponsored by Mr. G. B. Mahbubani, a prominent overseas Indian from Hong Kong. It shall be given every year to deserving students.

February 2, 1999

Priyadarshni Academy sponsored Bhagwati Navani Award 1999 for a sponsorship amount of Rs.1,000/-. The Award was presented to Mr. Surendra Kumar Bolakani.

3rd, 4th & 5th January, 1999

Indian Institute of Sindhology held an International Sindhi Conference and Cultural festival at Adipur-Gandhidham. The Institute has been doing commendable work in preserving and promoting Sindhi language and culture. As promotion of the regional languages of India, including Sindhi language is one of the important aims of the academy. Priyadarshni Academy contributed Rs.1,00,000/- to Indian Institute of Sindhology on this occasion to assist the organization in its endeavours.

The conference was inaugurated by Mr. L. K. Advani, Union Minister for Home. Mr. Ram Jethmalani, Minister for Urban Development, was one of the prominent dignitaries who attended the conference. The theme of the conference was "Sindhis - Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow". It was held with the aim to analyze the historical perspective of the Sindhi community; its sufferings and achievements after the independence of India, its global presence and contribution towards economical development and peaceful co-existence and its future projection in the 21st century.

Mr. Nanik Rupani was one of the Honoured Guests for this function which was attended by prominent Sindhi writers, educationists, scholars, NRIs, businessmen, social workers from Sindhi community all over India and abroad. Addressing the august gathering on this occasion, Mr. Rupani expressed great appreciation and support for the Institute’s objectives.

January 1st to 4th, 1999

Kaivalyadhama organized its 3rd International Conference at Lonavala. The Organization which has been endeavouring for many years to promote awareness about the benefits of natural living and practice of yoga, organized the conference to carry forward this commendable objective. Priyadarshni Academy forwarded an amount of Rs.10,000/- as its contribution to the conference on ‘Yoga and Research & Traditions’ held on the occasion of Platinum jubilee of Kaivalyadhama. The Academy has endeavoured to promote the practice of Yoga, which is particularly relevant in the present stress-filled social scenario, and was happy to assist and promote the efforts of Kaivalyadhama for the same.

Ms. Leena Inder Bhatia received educational assistance of Rs.590/- to meet the expenses of college fees for her 2nd year B.Sc. studies in Dr. B. M. N. College, Mumbai.

Mr. Nanik Rupani presided over a function organized by Kamla High School, under the management of ‘Sind Brahma Sikhya Samelan’. The function was held to celebrate the 90th year since the school’s inception in Sind and on completion of 50 years in India. Priyadarshni Academy sponsored the prizes for outstanding students for a sponsorship amount of Rs.10,000/-. Mr. Nanik Rupani and Dr. Ramesh Bhatia, Principal, Bombay Teachers Training College gave away the prizes. Smt. Geeta Rupani presented the trophies to the overall best performers of the school.

November 14, 1998

Korean Taekwondo Academy of India organized ‘IVth State Taekwondo Championship’ in Lonavala. In keeping with the Academy’s aim of promoting sports among the youth, the championship was sponsored by Priyadarshni Academy for an amount of Rs.10,000/-. Mr. Nanik Rupani was the Chief Guest at the opening ceremony of the Championship which was attended by various dignitaries from different fields.

Priyadarshni Academy has been promoting awareness about our culture and education amongst children since its inception. We have also collaborated with and assisted several other organizations in their projects in this area. The Academy was pleased to forward a sponsorship amount of Rs.50,000/- towards construction and renovation of Children’s Art Gallery and renovation of Children’s Library undertaken by Jawahar Bal Bhavan Mandal, on their premises in Mumbai. The Children’s Art Gallery and Children’s Library are named as ‘Priyadarshni Academy Bal Kala Dalan’ and ‘Priyadarshni Academy Bal Granthalaya’, respectively.

The Art Gallery and Library were inaugurated by Mr. Sudhir Joshi, Minister for Education, Maharashtra. Mr. Nanik Rupani was the Guest of Honour at this function which was attended by various dignitaries from different fields. The Art gallery which is exclusively for children will be used to encourage and showcase immense creative talent in our youngsters and will serve the purpose of providing a much needed platform to present their creativity. ‘Priyadarshni Academy Bal Granthalaya’ aims to provide children with healthy, informative and interesting literature to bring them back to the habit of meaningful reading.

In further pursuance of our objective to assist students in meeting the expenses of higher studies, the Academy granted financial assistance of Rs. 10,000/- to Ms. Priti Ramakant Musande, a 1st year MBBS student of the K. J. Somaiyya Medical College, Sion, Mumbai to help her with her college fees and to enable her to continue with her education.

September 19, 1998

Ms. Geeta Ramkhilari Singh received the first installment of Rs.3,000/- of the Academy’s ‘Fr. Aurelius Maschio Scholarship for B.Ed. Student in Hindi’. The second and final installment of the scholarship of Rs.2,000/- shall be forwarded to her upon passing the next examination of the course in the normal tenure with a first class.

Maharashtra Rajya Sindhi Sahitya Academy organized a seminar and awards distribution ceremony at Patkar Hall, Mumbai. Priyadarshni Academy sponsored Sindhi Cultural programme held on this occasion for a sponsorship amount of Rs.30,000/- Mr. Gopinath Munde, Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Mr. Pramod Navalkar, Minister for Cultural Affairs and Mr. Anil Deshmukh, Minister of State for Education, Maharashtra were the Guests of Honour on this occasion.

The Academy has been promoting regional languages, including Sindhi language by organizing various seminars and through its Literary awards. Association with this event, aimed at promoting Sindhi culture and Literature, was an occasion for Priyadarshni Academy to contribute significantly towards the same. The function was attended by various luminaries from the field of Sindhi Art, Literature and Culture. Addressing the distinguished gathering on this occasion, Mr. Nanik Rupani shared his thoughts on the strong need to preserve and promote Sindhi Culture and commended Maharashtra Rajya Sindhi Sahitya Academy for its efforts in this direction.
