The Academy presented a cheque for Rs. 90,000/- to Smt. Visalam Venkatram,
Chairperson, Vijay Merchant Rehabilitation Centre for the Disabled, the amount
being the balance of money for setting up 15 telephone booths for the
handicapped.
Mr. Sushilkumar Shinde assured assistance to Priyadarshni Academy in securing a plot of land to construct its own Auditorium.
Mr. Manu Daryanani was honoured by the Academy and enrolled as a Patron of the Academy. He was awarded a trophy for his valuable assistance in tracing the salient events of the Academy from 1985 to 1990 and editing the video cassettes of the Academy.
Memento's were presented to Mr. Pramod Patel, Mr. Balram Rupani and Mr. Prabodh Thakker in appreciation of their co-operation in compiling and printing the Academy's Book "SIX MOMENTOUS YEARS."
Priyadarshni Academy and Mr. R. R. Pardeshi, Deputy Director of Education, Greater Bombay, jointly organised a special function at G.D. Somani Memorial School, Colaba, Bombay on April 25 for the purpose of presenting awards to the students of secondary schools and their headmasters and principals of Greater Bombay.
Mr. Nana Chudasama, Ex-Sheriff of Bombay, who was the Chief Guest, congratulated Mr. Nanik Rupani and Mr. R. R. Pardeshi for their effort to educate students about the drug menace and also to wean them away from it. He appreciated the presentation of Awards to students participating in the elocution, drawing and essay contests on the topic of drug addiction and its evil effects.
Mr. Nana Chudasama, Mr. Ajit Wadekar, Mr. R.R. Pardeshi, Mr. Nanik Rupani and Mr. J. A. Dange, Secretary (Home) presented trophies, awards and certificates to headmasters and students. Twenty-four shields were also presented to schools and 72 trophies and certificates to the students - winners of various competitions.
