Financial Assistance To Flood Affected Student

Priyadarshni Academy “First Social Organisation to Give Financial assistance to an Educational Cause” says Mumbai University Vice Chancellor

Priyadarshni Academy, as part of its educational assistance programme, gave financial assistance to 287 flood-affected students at a function organised by the Academy at the Walchand Hirachand Hall of the Indian Merchants’ Chamber on September 1, 2005.

Dr. Vijay Khole, Vice Chancellor, University of Mumbai, was the Chief Guest and Prof. (Mrs.) Rupa Shah, Vice Chancellor, S. N. D. T. Women’s University, was the Guest of Honour. Mr. Daniel Zohar Zonshine, Consul General of Israel, Mr. Ashok Patil, former Minister of Maharashtra, and Dr. Ms. Indu Shahani, Principal, H. R. College of Commerce & Economics, gave away the cheques to the students.

give financial assistance to a flood-affected educational cause” and added that others should take a cue from this organisation”.

Prof. (Mrs.) Rupa Shah, Vice Chancellor, S.N.D.T. Women’s University, complimented Priyadarshni Academy for extending financial assistance to 154 flood-affected girl students. She recommended that Priyadarshni pursue such, noble educational assistance programmes.

In his welcome address, Mr. Rupani stated that out of the 287 students, 24 applied directly and the rest were recommended by schools and colleges from the flood-affected areas. Financial assistance ranging from Rs. 500 to Rs. 5000 to each student and totaling a sum of Rs.2,05,500 was disbursed on the occasion.

Students from the following institutions were given financial assistance: Gyan Sadhna Education Society’s Secondary School, Manori, Malad East (Rs. 11,000); Daulat Shikshan Sanstha’s High School, Malad West (Rs. 17,500); G. R. Patil English Medium Secondary School, Dombivli East (Rs. 6,000); Smt. Goklibai Punamchand Pitamber High School, Vile - Parle West (Rs. 46,500);Powai English High School (Rs.30,500); Smt. Chandibai Himatmal Mansukhani College, Ulhasnagar (Rs. 30,000) and S. N. D. T. College of Arts & S. C. B. College of Commerce & Economics for Women (Rs. 50,000).
