NATIONAL INTEGRATION THROUGH DANCE AND MUSIC

The Priyadarshni Academy and Jai Hind College held a programme of classical dance under the project "National Integration through Dance and Music" on 23rd January, 2004 at 7.00 p.m. at Jai Hind College Auditorium, Mumbai 400 020 under the auspices of Celebrating India.

Shri Nanik Rupani, Chairman, Priyadarshni Academy welcomed the Guest of Honour, Dr. Jagannathrao Hedge, Sheriff of Mumbai, Shri Kiran Shantaram, Ex-Sheriff of Mumbai, Mr. Niranjan Hiranandani, Vice President, Priyadarshni Academy, Prof. Nanik Shivdasani, Principal, Jai Hind College, Col. Sudhir Sawant (MLC), Convenor-Celebrating India, and thanked them for their gracious presence at the function.

Shri Nanik Rupani acknowledged with appreciation and gratitude the various contributions of people who have worked to make the evening a success with special mention of Ms. Madhavi Vora for her keen interest in the promotion of Indian Culture, Prof. Nanik Shivdasani for the Jai Hind College Auditorium and Mr. Keyur Patel for the sponsorship of the mementoes.

The programme commenced with International performance by International Artists. Ms. Irena and Mr. Vojtech Havlovi well known Czech musicians. Their music being a unique blend of Czech and Indian folk tunes is considered primarily a way to communicate with their instruments and their audiences.

National Integration through Dance & Music Programme includes two enthralling Dance Ballets depicted in the graceful art forms of Odissi and Bharatanatyam.

Performance I :
Kaishiki Nrityabhasha performing Rukmani Haran Ballet :
Rukmani Haran, an Odissi dance ballet, choreographed by the Odissi dance exponent Daksha Mashruwala, is a beautiful depiction of the story of the Royal Princess Rukmani’s letter to Lord Krishna, in which she reveals her love & devotion for him.

The entire episode is charmingly portrayed by the students of Kaishiki, the Odissi dance Institution established by Daksha Mashruwala, that embellishes the scenario of Indian Classical at with talented youngsters.

 

Performance II :
Soundarya Natya Kalalaya performing Navarasa Ballet :
Navarasa is a unique thematic ballet, which has been choregraphed by Guru Smt. Padmini Radhakrishnan, which has been staged in India & abroad. Pandit Shri Venugopal Pillai has selected the verses for each Rasa from the Natya Shastras.

Along with the innovative choreography, the melodious notes of music have been selected by Smt. Padmini Radhakrishnan. Soundarya Natya Kalalaya presents this theme with different characters, in a ballet form.

Guest of Honour, Dr. Jagannathrao Hegde, Sheriff of Mumbai appreciated the performances for the evening and congratulated the Academy for starting the project "National Integration through Dance and Music" to promote talented artistes. The Guests of Honour presented the artists with appreciation mementoes.

Mr. Nanik Shivdasani, Principal Jai Hind College who has jointly organized the programme with the Academy congratulated the performers and said that it is the artistes who bring about the real national integration.

The Programme was compered beautifully by Mr. Kishan Sharma. The Vote of thanks was proposed by Ms. Madhavi Vora, Chairperson of the Cultural Committee, Priyadarshni Academy.

We are confident that you will kindly extend all support to the Academy by giving due coverage to the programme and the artists. This will be a valuable encouragement to the artistes and in effect the propagation of Indian heritage and culture through classical dance & music.
